Read the review: 🤍 Time flies when you’re subverting analog norms! It’s been 18 years since Line 6 challenged sonic assumptions with the original kidney-bean-shaped Pod, the device that introduced countless guitarists to the possibilities of modeled amps and stompboxes. So it’s no shocker that Helix, the company’s new flagship pedalboard modeler, has all the hallmarks of a mature product line. If I had to describe Helix in a word or two, I’d consider “great-sounding” and “versatile,” but I’d probably go with “thoughtful.” You get the sense that a clever development team considered every conceivable way a guitarist might use a tool like this, and designed accordingly. Helix is an ambitious multi-effector with nearly 200 amp and pedal models, a built-in expression pedal, and exceptional rear-panel connectivity. It seems designed to go head-to-head with modeling rigs like Fractal Audio’s Axe-Fx II and the Kemper Profiling Amplifier, but it’s configured as a pedalboard rather than a rackmount box or head. Meanwhile, Helix’s $1,499 street price is well below that of its rival products, and here you edit sounds via a large, full-color LED screen, as opposed to the rather stingy LCD windows of its competitors. (Though in all cases, users can connect to a computer via USB and edit on a dedicated software interface). Crafty guitarists might use Helix for nearly every aspect of their music making: composing and sound-designing while monitoring through headphones, tracking to DAW via Helix’s quality convertors, and rehearsing and gigging by plugging into a P.A. or a clean-toned, full-frequency amp, or bypassing Helix’s amp/cab simulations and playing through a conventional amp. Two performance modes let you switch between up to eight sets of up to 128 patches each, or just use Helix as a static pedalboard with simple on/of switches for each assigned effect. THE definitive Line 6 Helix review showing inside & out; including I/O, controls, programming, the chips, other useful info throughout and audio examples. This is the longest review I have ever completed and this pedal deserves it! If you think you know Line 6 well think again. The Helix sets new standards compared to older Line6 gear. Maybe Yamaha have had something to do with this as they now hold the reins of Line6 but in any case the Helix rocks. You will find specific sections throughout this video covering near enough everything and if you just opened the box then this video will probably help you. I discuss the amps and cabs, effects, the blocks and how to assign them and so much more so I recommend you watch the whole video because its that full of info on this great new processor pedal. This pedal is not really a comparison against say a Kemper - that uses different technology, but you might compare it with an Axe-FX II or even Axe-FX III as there seem many similarities. It is likely that the Axe may have more sounds etc. in it today, but watch Yamaha change that as the Helix moves forward. The Helix I found was easier to use - less complicated than the Axe-FX II that I owned. Not to mention that there are new models on the way from Line6 also. Overall this is a delightful effects and amplifier simulation pedal that is extremely well made, has 'dual processors' and a host of other chips that set the HELIX to probably be one of the lowest cost and dynamic 'block' based processors on the market today. I have written an even more in depth review here on my website: 🤍 and I'm sure that review as backup for this video will get you completely up to speed about the Helix effects unit.
