Okinawa is the southernmost prefecture in Japan, and its warm climate and beautiful beaches attract many tourists. Everywhere in Okinawa there are incredibly beautiful beaches. I enjoyed snorkeling so much. The waters are crystal clear and full of colorful fish. I took videos even underwater, but unfortunately the data was broken and I can't show you those lovely fishes. This is a street food tour of Makishi Public Market, also known as Okinawa’s kitchen. This Japanese market is full of colorful tropical fish, tropical fruits, and all sorts of delicious food you can only find in Okinawa. The island of course is surrounded by ocean which naturally lends itself to extremely fresh seafood and because of this it's one of my favorite Japan home away from home destinations. It’s only about a 15 mins drive from Naha Airport and is located in the Kokusai Dori area. It’s easy to miss the entrance, so make sure to find the small alley, Ichiba HonDori, to find this somewhat hidden market. Started as a black market in the post-war era, its now run by the city since 1950. It has a brand new facade from a recent renovation, but you can still feel the history when talking to people inside of the market. One of my absolute favorites about this spot, is that food you purchase at the market on the 1st floor can be taken up to the 2nd floor restaurants to be freshly cooked called mochiage, which I’ll be gladly showing you today. Today I’m hanging out with my friend Yuji-San and we’re going to take you on an ultimate Okinawan food tour! Thanks to my friend Yuji-San for taking me about Naha: 🤍 1. MEGURO miso soup stand: 🤍 - We started off for the greatest ever rice ball and craft miso soup. It was a totally new experience and appreciation for miso soup. Total price - 2,800 JPY 2. Tofu Soba at Takaesu Soba: 🤍 - In Okinawa, soba is totally different from the buckwheat noodles you get in other parts of Japan. Okinawan soba is something nearly everyone eats for lunch and it’s more similar to ramen with wheat noodles and pork ribs. We went to this special place for their tofu soba. Total price - 2,770 JPY 3. Ice snow cones at Fujiya Tomari: 🤍 - Another thing you have to try in Okinawa is their snow cones. Price - 1,350 JPY for everything 4. Okinawan Izakaya at Urizun: 🤍 - In order get a taste of traditional Okinawan food, we went to Urizun. Again, dishes were totally different from anywhere else I’ve bee. Price - 9,353 JPY for everything 5. Goat Sashimi at Nijuban (20th) Goat Restaurant: 🤍 - Finally there was one meal I was not going to leave Okinawa without trying - goat sashimi! Authorities said thousands of households need to be evacuated as the storm ravages coastal regions. Torrential rain and violent gusts of wind have brought down power lines, leaving more than 200,000 households without electricity. Powerful Typhoon Khanun hit Okinawa in southwestern Japan on Wednesday. The wind speed is 170 km/h near the center of the typhoon, with gusts up to 230 km/h. The typhoon is moving west at a speed of 15 km/h. The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a warning of strong winds and storm surges. Meanwhile, evacuation centers were set up in Okinawa. The storm damaged several houses and forced traffic to stop and shops to close. Many hospitals only accepted emergency patients. The hurricane also left almost 200,000 homes without power. Khanun, the sixth typhoon this year, has caused disruption to traffic. Public transport, including buses and ferries connecting the region's islands, has been suspended. Hundreds of domestic and international flights to and from Naha Airport have been cancelled. The rain clouds surrounding the typhoon develop and bring heavy rains. About 20 cm of rain fell in the Okinawa region by noon Thursday. A man was found dead in a village in northeast Okinawa after a garage collapsed on him. It is reported that 34 people were injured. Authorities urged residents to stay indoors and stay away from windows. The typhoon is expected to move west, maintaining its intensity, and approach the Sakishima Islands.
