Diablo 4 reviewed by Travis Northup on Xbox Series X|S, also available on PlayStation and PC. Blizzard's long-awaited sequel to Diablo 3 has near perfect endgame and progression design that makes it absolutely excruciating to put down. The story is a disappointment despite still being a noticeable improvement over Diablo 3 and there are some annoying bugs that need squashing, but the combat, the loot game, and both the sights and sounds of this world are impressive enough to smooth over those rough edges. Diablo 4 takes the strategy of refining things the series already did so well rather than giving it a more substantial overhaul, and that careful and reverent path has shaped this massive sequel into one of the most polished ARPGs ever created. #Diablo4 #Review #IGN

Diablo IV's surprisingly moving and engrossing story encapsulates gameplay systems that have learnt all the right lessons from entries past. It's sometimes difficult to reconcile that Diablo III is over a decade old. Its release was polarizing for a number of reasons, but its evolving formula of action role-playing endured, enjoying a resurgence with its post-launch expansion that carried through years of ongoing seasonal updates. It shouldn't come as a surprise, then, that each of those years helped inform the design of Diablo IV, a game which confidently delivers gameplay that has been carried forward and refined from both Diablo II and III, while also establishing a strong foundation for the franchise's future. Diablo 4 has somehow managed to get worse after the release of Season 1. But the game didn't just get worse, so did Blizzard and their business practices. This game has been mathematically designed to waste as much of your time as possible and it's the best explanation for why so much of the game feels needlessly tedious. Blizzard has no respect for you as a customer or a player, and I think they deserve the same level of respect from us. While it has a strong foundation the launch version of Diablo IV left a lot to be desired; from the amount and variety of content, to sorely needed QOL features. Blizzard just revealed big updates for Season 2, is it enough?
Diablo IV is finally here. After spending over 100 hours with the game, here's my final review of what we're getting at release. While there are some pain points and I do wish Blizzard took some bigger swings, overall I've really enjoyed the game. Diablo 4 purports to horrify but also deliver sick loot and other live-service-driven rewards. A meticulous aesthetic, solid-feeling combat are at odds with the environmental design, annoying pacing and unenthusiastic loot. For all the content that Diablo 4 offers, especially in the end game, it's rife with questionable design decisions. Those looking for a straightforward action RPG looter to dive into, admiring the sights and sounds, and may get lost in its various machinations and time sinks. It's fine, overall. However, there's no shaking the feeling that it could have been more substantial and organic.
Diablo 4 is here and it's as snappy, fun, and addicting as expected. Every single facet of this game contains measurements for the progress you make allowing it to reward you every step on your journey to defeating Lilith. To say that I'm hooked would be generous. Despite exceptional revenue and rave reviews from many critics, Blizzard's Diablo 4 is in an odd place. Various problems remained in the lead-up to Season of the Malignant, like respec costs, limited stash space or the constant nerfing of XP farming. The underwhelming state of classes like Sorcerer also didn't help. There was hope of things turning around when Season 1 dropped. Unfortunately, the pre-season patch arrived and nerfed every class, XP gain, and more. There were even some inane changes like World Tier 3 and 4 level requirements and two more seconds required to leave a Dungeon. To say that players were annoyed would be an understatement. Here's what happened and what the development team has done to address it.

Enemies are split into monster families which are defined by a theme, combat style, and their location. Each family contains different archetypes that hold different roles allowing for synergies of specialty abilities between family members.
