In the rare circumstances where an aircraft pilot loses control of their planes' descent, the results can be among the worst disasters in aviation history. This episode explores why and how descents can sometimes go badly wrong. In 1988 a plane air crash happened at a Air France airshow stunt. A Airbus 320-111 descended too low during a low fly-by and tragically killed three members of the public. Unfortunately dangerous descents don't only happen at airshows and this programme will also look at how uncontrolled descents during a commercial craft's runway landing, can have deadly consequences for everyone on board. How on November 14th, 1970 a DC9 carrying the Marshall University Football Team was approaching to land at the airport in Huntington, West Virginia. But the aircraft doesn’t stop its descent at 1240 feet as instructed. У пилота создатся ощущение, что он залазит на «забор», то есть на ограничения по скорости. Это психологчески пугает пилотов и они начинают тянуть на себя, чтобы погасить скорость. Именно это у них и произошло. То же самое произошло и с Ан-148 «Саратовских авиалиний». Только у них эффект был обратный. Когда разгоняется скорость, на приборе она падает, поэтому командир и дал такое отвесное бездумное пикирование» Командир Airbus A320: «Они распознали неправильные показания скорости, но действовали неправильно. Там надо было дать команду и терпеливо ждать, когда самолёт её выполнит, а не шуровать сайдстиком по всей кабине, как это делал второй пилот. Их действия были резкие, поспешные и несоразмерные. На большой высоте самолёт очень инертен. Он не успевал отрабатывать их команды и не понимал, чего от него хотят. На лицо отсутствие навыков пилотирования самолёта у второго пилота. Эти навыки и так страдают на этих больших автоматизированных защищённых самолётах. Наличие электроники, отсутствие прямого управления, отсутствие опыта ручных полётов на больших высотах не позволило им нормально среагировать. Очень напоминает случай в Магадане, с авиакомпанией S7. Там тоже сначала нашурудил ручкой второй пилот до того, как сработала сигнализация. Сигнализация эта на Airbus очень громко орёт, пилоты, порой, не могут расслышать друг друга. Если ты хочешь что-то сказать напарнику, надо сильно орать, и то он тебя только с пятого раза понимает». Почему нельзя измерять скорость по обычной GPS-ке или по смартфону? Для того, чтобы самолёт летел, необходима подъёмная сила. Её создаёт напор воздуха. Именно этот напор и меряют датчики ППД и получают ПРИБОРНУЮ скорость. Измерение ПУТЕВОЙ скорости, как в смартфоне, в самолёте тоже есть. Меряют её через спутник, но она не даёт реальной картины скоростных характеристик аэродинамики лайнера. December 1995 - It’s the Holiday Season, and the skies are full. Airlines are straining to keep on schedule. Harried and frayed passengers, anxious to get home, are only serving to ratchet up the tension. In the middle of it all is American Airlines Flight 965. The plane is carrying 164 passengers and crew en route to Cali, Columbia from Miami. Are you able to work out what caused this disaster? From Season 2 Episode 5 "Lost": The plane is late, held on the tarmac in Miami for two hours, and the mood on board and in the cockpit is not one of Christmas cheer. To make up for a lost time, two of American Airlines’ most experienced pilots are pushing the plane to the limit. The aircraft is a state-of-the-art Boeing 757. When the plane is descending into the Cali airport a mechanical voice sounds out in the cockpit “Pull up, pull up”. The plane is about to crash. Somehow they have strayed 12 miles off course and are heading straight for a mountain. Desperately the flight crew struggles to get the 757’s nose up. Just as they are succeeding, the huge aircraft slams into the top of one of the mountains surrounding Cali, disintegrating on contact. Yevgeny Prigozhin has been killed in a private jet crash in the Tver region north of Moscow, Russian agencies have reported. The Wagner mercenary boss was on board the aircraft when it crashed killing all 10 passengers, authorities have said. American Airlines Flight 587 was a regularly scheduled international passenger flight from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport to Las Américas International Airport in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. On November 12, 2001, the Airbus A300B4-605R flying the route crashed shortly after takeoff into the Belle Harbor neighbourhood of Queens, a borough of New York City. All 260 people aboard the plane (251 passengers and 9 crew members) were killed, along with 5 people on the ground. It is the second-deadliest aviation incident involving an Airbus A300 and the third-deadliest aviation incident to occur on U.S. soil. The location of the accident and the fact that it took place two months and one day after the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center in Manhattan initially spawned fears of another terrorist attack. Terrorism was officially ruled out as the cause by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which instead attributed the disaster to the first officer's overuse of rudder controls in response to wake turbulence from a Japan Airlines (JAL) Boeing 747-400 that took off minutes before it. According to the NTSB, the aggressive use of the rudder controls by the first officer caused the vertical stabiliser to snap off the plane, along with the plane's two engines separating from intense forces before impact. Because the crash occurred just two months and one day after the September 11 attacks in New York, several major buildings including the Empire State Building and the United Nations Headquarters were evacuated. In the months after the crash, rumors circulated that the plane had been destroyed in a terrorist plot, with a shoe bomb similar to the one found on Richard Reid. In May 2002, a Kuwaiti national named Mohammed Jabarah agreed to cooperate with investigators as part of a plea bargain. Among the details Jabarah gave authorities was a claim made to Jabarah by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed's lieutenant, who told Jabarah that Reid and Abderraouf Jdey had both been enlisted by the al-Qaeda chief to carry out identical shoe-bombing plots as part of a second wave of attacks against the United States. According to this lieutenant, Jdey's bomb had successfully blown up Flight 587, while Reid's attempt had been foiled. In May 2002, a Canadian government memo was written that repeated the claims suggesting that Jdey had a role in the crash, while conceding that the reliability of the source of that information — Khalid Sheikh Mohammed's lieutenant — was unknown. According to information contained in the memo, Jdey — a naturalized Canadian citizen — was to use his own Canadian passport to board the flight. While American Airlines' passenger manifest did indicate citizens boarding with passports from the United States, the Dominican Republic, Taiwan, France,[d] Haiti, and Israel, no passengers boarded using a Canadian passport. According to NTSB spokesman Ted Lopatkiewicz, the weight of the memo's veracity was put into question, as no evidence of a terrorist traveling on board was found. The evidence suggested that the aircraft was brought down after a piece of the empennage, "the vertical fin, came off", while it did not indicate "any kind of event in the cabin."

You heard that right this video is not clickbait, the current king of England, King Charles the third crashed the queen's private jet and this is how that happened. For those of you that dont know the royal family has a private jet. Now that I think about it the royal family probably has many private jets. From what i can find the royal family has a VIP A330 and they charter planes as needed, sometimes small private jets sometimes the concorde, the royal squadron had 2 bae 146s for short haul VIP transport and that will be the focus of our video today. The bae 146 was perfect for short haul royal transpoerrt because it had impressive shortfield performance meaning that it could squeeze into the tiny little airports scattered around london and around the UK. The 4 engines meant that the On the 29th of june 1994 one of those bae 146s was to fly from aberdeen airport to Islay-Glenegedale Airport. The plane had 11 people onboard one of whom was the then prince of wales his royal highness charles the third. Oh thats not me being pretentious by the way the final report actually referees to charles as his royal highness. The flight left aberdeen 23 minutes late and since the distance between aberdeen and ily is less than 200 miles they couldnt really make up the time in transit. Thus as they got closer to ily they were running behind just a bit. The captain and the first officer were preparing for the landing and 10 minutes before landing charles took over from the first officer in the left hand seat. Now the final report for this incident is only 3 pages long and it took days of diggin just to find that, so we dont have a lot of information on how the transfer took place. Did the first officer go, would you like to have a go your highness or did charles ask to be in control? We dont know. There are no transcripts of cockpit conversations. With prince charles at the controls the plane was now getting close to ILY. as they prepped for the landing they got a weather report from islay. The winds were at 250 degrees at 20 knots and they had broken cloud cover at 500 feet and 1000 feet. They could land on either runway 13 or runway 31 which would give them a stopping distance of 1245 meters or .77 miles which is more than enough for the plucky 146. But due to the cloud cover and the high terrain to the south east the captain decided to fly a procedural approach to runway 13. The captain was guiding prince charles though the approach, they were charting the best possible course to the runway missing as much of the clouds as possible. The bae 146 then lined up with runway 13 and prince charles took the plane down towards the runway and within a few minutes the jet was almost at the runway. Then the jet touched down. But there was something wrong there wasnt a whole lot of runway remaining from the point of touch down they only had about 784 meters or half a mile left to stop, but heres the thing its not like the prince could just slam on the brakes from this point and then stop because he landed nose down meaning that the nose wheels made contact with the runway first. At the point of touch down the main gear had not even made contact yet,. The pilots in the cockpit and were frantically trying to get the engines into ground idle and deploy the spoilers but the jet just did not seem to want to slow down. With just 500 meters remaining on the runway the jet finally landed and then from that point on they were trying to bleed off as much energy as possible to stop the jet in time. They were braking so hard that two of the main tyres exploded. As the jet reached the end of the runway the captain knew that the jet wouldnt be able to stop and so he tried to route the plane over to the a taxiway on the left but that did not work and the plane went over the runway and settled into the soft mud. The ferocious braking before hand had kind of worked as the plane overran the runway at a low speed. But it wasn't slow enough the soft mud broke the nose gear of the plane and it

Reports indicate that its subsequent dive could have exceeded Mach 1 (the sound barrier). There were no survivors. China Airlines Flight 611 - 225 dead: On 25 May 2002 flight 611 from Taiwan to Hong Kong disintegrated mid-flight due to faulty repairs 22 years earlier. Korean Air Flight 801 - 228 dead: Despite protests from the flight engineer that the captain was not detecting the correct signal for landing, he pressed on and guided flight 801 from Seoul, South Korea directly into the Guam mountainside leaving only 26 survivors. Air France Flight 447 - 228 dead: 1 June 2009 flight 447 disappeared on its way to Paris from Rio de Janeiro. Although the wreckage was found after 5 days the black box was recovered 2 years later. The cause was found to be an inappropriate pilot response to faulty airspeed indicators due to bad weather conditions and ice. Swissair Flight 111 - 229 dead: On 2 September 1998 Swissair flight 111 from New York to Geneva crashed into the ocean just off of Nova Scotia due to a rapidly spreading cockpit fire. 9/11 flights: Although not a single air disaster, the four flights involved in 9/11 were responsible for the greatest single-day loss of life in commercial aviation history. Two of the flights, American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 each were responsible for thousands of casualties after being driven into the World Trade Centers and are considered the largest and second-largest losses of life due to individual plane crashes in all of aviation history with 1700 and 1000 people killed respectively. Tenerife Airport Disaster - 583 dead: In terms of passengers and crew killed this collision between two Boeing 747s on the Spanish island of Tenerife is considered the deadliest plane crash in history. Japan Airlines Flight 123 - 520 dead: On August 12, 1985, a flight from Tokyo to Osaka crashed into Mount Takamagahara leaving only 4 survivors. Charkhi Dadri mid-air collision - 349 dead: The deadliest mid-air collision in history, Saudi Arabian airlines, and Kazakhstan airlines crashed just west of New Delhi killing everyone on both planes. An investigation found that once again a lack of English language skills on behalf of the Kazakh pilots was the primary cause. Ermenonville air disaster - 346 dead: After a Moroccan baggage handler was unable to read the proper latching instructions in either English or Turkish on Turkish airlines flight 981, the latch blew off mid-flight as the plane crashed into Ermonville forest near Paris, France. Furthermore, the latches had a known design flaw. Air India Flight 182 - 329 dead: On the 23 of June 1985 a bomb exploded onboard Air India Flight 182 as it was flying between London and Montreal. The plane crashed into the Atlantic Ocean just off the coast of Ireland. A Canadian Sikh militant group was responsible. Saudia Flight 163 - 301 dead: This flight from Riyadh to Jeddah caught fire shortly after takeoff. It turned around and made an emergency landing but everyone on board died of smoke inhalation before fire crews could get inside. The fire was started due to butane stoves used by Muslim pilgrims because of their strict dietary restrictions. Saudi Arabia has since banned the stoves but some people still smuggle them onboard to make tea. Iran Air Flight 655 - 290 dead: During the Iraq-Iran on July 3, 1988, the USS Vincennes shot down Iran Air Flight 665 going between Tehran and Dubai due to confused communications.
